The National Education Policy(NEP) 2020, drawn out by The Ministry of Education mainly focuses on the increasing literacy rate, lower dropout rates and numeracy achievements in primary schools, and many disciplinary changes in high education. The NEP strategy also keeps forward early childhood love, curriculum and pedagogy, revised assessment and exam pattern along with teacher training and evaluation on a huge scale. The New Education Policy 2020 expects to provide Indian students with high quality education system and introduce new rules for the education of student and teacher so that everybody is well taught.


Changes by NEP 2020


Curriculum Structure

The 10+2 structure of Indian education will be replaced by 5+3+4 structure and will be broken into four stages.


  • Foundational Stage-3 to 8 year old

  • Preparatory Stage-8-11 year old

  • Middle Stage-11-14 year old

  • Secondary stage-14-18 year old


Examination

Instead of academic annual exams,exams will be available only for classes 2,5 and 8. Students of classes 10 and 12 will be sitting for a revised version of board exams, that will be conducted twice a year in two parts:

Moreover, each student will be getting two attempts.


Curriculum

The policy focuses on reducing the pressure on students by aiming them to be multilingual and interdisciplinary. They can follow their passion along with studies.The policy also includes coding classes from class 6.

NEP also states a 4 year bachelor’s degree for undergraduate students along with multiple entries and exits from degree courses. According to the scheme, 1 year of college will be completed with a certificate, two years with a diploma and after three years a degree.


Common Entrance Test for Universities

For non-technical undergraduate courses, a single common entrance test will be conducted for public and private universities. This will make the admission procedure simpler and smoother for students as well as the institutional authority.


Teacher training

To become a teacher for this newly improvised education system, one has to be aptly trained with a 4 year Bachelor of Education program. More transparency is expected on recruitment of teachers into schools, colleges and universities.
